Pineapple Pretzel Salad...Family Favorite!!

Pineapple Pretzel Salad
1 stick butter
1 cup sugar
3 cups pretzels, broken
1 (8 oz) cream cheese
8 oz cool whip (thawed)
1 (16 oz) tidbit pineapple
Melt butter in saucepan. Add 1/2 cup sugar & broken pretzels; mix well. Bake pretzels for 7 minutes in a 350 degree oven, stirring once. (We always do this the day ahead and then break them apart right before adding to mix)
Mix cream cheese & 1/2 cup sugar in a bowl. Fold in cool whip & pineapple. Add pretzels just before serving.
